Bursary Overview

Standard Bank Group Bursary Programme is designed to promote academic excellence and shape next generation of African talent and African leader.

Undergraduate Bursary

Undergraduate bursary is for student who on track to finish their first year successfully, and need funding from second year onwards. Applicant must be well-rounded with strong academic result in funded qualification.

Postgraduate Bursary

Standard Bank Group also give full-cost bursary to student who have financial need and strong academic record, and want to pursue postgraduate study in funded field.

Fields of Study

Bursary available in these field:

  • Agriculture
  • Commerce
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Science — Actuarial, Analytics, Business, Computer, Data, Information
  • Statistics
  • Technology — Financial, Information
  • Behavioural Economics — including Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, and Neuroscience

What Bursary Cover

  • University fees
  • Accommodation — university residence or private accommodation (private accommodation cost subject to certain limit, explained to successful candidate when bursary is provisionally allocated)
  • Meals — university meal or self-catering
  • Books and other study material
  • Laptop computer
  • Monthly stipend for other living cost
  • Transport between home and campus 4 times per year, at cost of bus ticket

Who Can Apply

Undergraduate Student

  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must be studying full-time for undergraduate qualification in one of the field listed above
  • Must be entering 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study in 2027
  • Must study at recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Must have strong academic record
  • Must have minimum overall average of 65% in most recent examination
  • Must have financial need

Postgraduate Student

  • Must be studying full-time for postgraduate qualification up to Master’s level, in one of the field listed above
  • Must study at recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Must have strong academic record
  • Must have minimum overall average of 65% in most recent examination
  • Must have financial need
