CSIR and SASOL Foundation work together to invite student to apply for bursary for 2027 academic year. This bursary is for full-time, unemployed student who study in field that CSIR see as important — like research, technology, innovation, and support area. Bursary is merit-based, meaning you must perform well to qualify.
Women, black student, and student with disability are especially welcome to apply.

Bursary cover undergraduate study in these field only:
- Chemical Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science
- Data Science
- Electronic Engineering
- Genetics / Cell Biology
- Industrial Engineering
- Information Technology
- Material Flow Analysis
- Mechatronic Engineering
- Process Engineering / Life Cycle Assessment
- System Engineering

Who Qualify
All requirement below must be met — if you miss even one, your application will not go through.
If you currently in Matric:
- Must be South African citizen
- Must be unemployed
- Must be in Matric right now
- Must plan to study full-time for undergraduate degree in one of the field above, starting 2027
- Must plan to study at South African public university
- Must have these minimum Matric results:
- English — minimum level 5
- Mathematics — minimum level 6
- Physical Science — minimum level 6
If you currently at university:
- Must be South African citizen
- Must be unemployed
- Must study full-time in one of the field listed above
- Must have minimum overall average of 65%
- Must have pass every registered subject for your completed study period

Send clear copy of these together with your online application:
- Certified copy of ID
- Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results — if you in Matric now
- Latest academic record — if you already at university
- Updated CV
