About the Opportunity

BBF Safety Group invite suitably qualified candidate to apply for four Production Learner vacancy at their Port Elizabeth plant. Opportunity is for candidate with Grade 12/Matric and relevant experience in production environment or stores-related work.

Successful candidate will report to Senior Production Supervisor and will be responsible for supporting different production activity, while following manufacturing procedure, quality standard, workplace safety requirement, and daily production target.

Job Purpose

Main purpose of Production Learner position is to make sure assigned work is completed correct and that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed in full. Learner may work in different area of the manufacturing process, depend on operational need. Attention to detail is very important part of this role.

Duties and Responsibilities

Production Learner may be required to do duty in several production function:

Repairer

  • Identify defective or poor-quality shoe and boot before they go to quality department
  • Use correct crayon or paste for relevant shoe or boot
  • Follow required production and quality procedure

Trimmer

  • Make sure knife is at correct temperature before removing excess SPU
  • Remove all excess SPU from upper
  • Check that ticket correspond with number of shoe on trolley

Dome Attacher

  • Wipe dome area with solvent before placing magic wood
  • Make sure correct dome is placed on relevant shoe or boot
  • Follow prescribed production process and quality requirement

Sock Inserter

  • Make sure correct sock is inserted into shoe or boot
  • Check that shoe or boot size match the sock size
  • Maintain accuracy throughout production process

Edge Stain and Iron

  • Stain raw edge on upper
  • Iron backer onto leather counter
  • Follow required quality standard for finished product

Lacing

  • Make sure correct lacing is used
  • Check correct colour is used for relevant shoe or boot
  • Make sure correct lace size is used

Dresser

  • Make sure correct dressing is placed on shoe and boot
  • Use correct colour of dressing
  • Make sure correct number of upper is placed on trolley for dressing
  • Make sure ticket is booked correct for dressing

Upper Cleaner

  • Remove excess glue from upper
  • Remove marking from upper
  • Make sure clean and properly finished upper is sent to quality

Top Spray

  • Spray shoe and boot correct
  • Make sure finished product meet required quality standard
  • Follow applicable production and safety procedure

Boxer

  • Make sure quality shoe and boot get packed into box
  • Check correct size is packed
  • Make sure correct colour box is used

Box Maker

  • Make and stamp box correct according to line number
  • Make sure correct date is stamped on box
  • Insert correct pamphlet into box
  • Check packaging information before box is used

Box Labeler

  • Make and label box correct
  • Make sure ticket correspond with label
  • Make sure correct number of box is placed in carton
  • Scan ticket correct into warehouse system

Cementing

  • Cement and fit toe cap after receiving from Force Laster
  • Apply cement to toe cap using brush
  • Fit toe cap to upper according to required procedure

General Responsibilities

All Production Learner must also:

  • Report all fault, reject, and defect to Supervisor
  • Practice good housekeeping at all time
  • Keep workplace neat, tidy, and clean
  • Follow workplace health and safety requirement
  • Work toward achieving daily production target
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures
  • Do other duty assigned by Supervisor when needed

Qualification Requirements

Must have Grade 12 / Matric

Experience Requirements

Must have worked in production environment in similar position, or have stores-related experience. Previous exposure to manufacturing, production, warehousing, or stores operation is relevant. Experience in environment where accuracy, stock handling, production target, quality control, packaging, or workplace safety is important will be advantage.

Health and Safety Requirements

Successful candidate must:

  • Follow applicable Health and Safety regulation
  • Wear protective clothing where necessary
  • Follow workplace safety procedure
  • Maintain clean and safe working area
  • Report fault, defect, and unsafe condition to Supervisor

Competencies

  • Must understand manufacturing quality standard
  • Advanced Excel is added advantage
  • Must have attention to detail, accuracy, reliability
  • Must be able to follow instruction
  • Must be able to work toward production target
